Question:What influences you to homeschool?
Homeschooler: I decided to homeschool to help my oldest achieve his highest potential.
the public school was not doing all it could to help him excel.
Question: How is your homeschool different from teaching your child in the local public school?
Homeschooler: I can teach as fast or as slow as my children need. When we done with a topic,
we can move on and not have to wait for the rest of the clas to catch up. When we need more time to fully grasp a concept,
we can take whatever time is needed for the kids to really understand and feel rushed.
Question: Have you had any difficulties with your state or school district?
Homeschooler: No. Our
school was really understanding when we pulled our children out.
Question: Where do you obtain your curriculums?
Homeschooler:
Homeschool curriculum groups, co-ops, and online rescouces.
Question: What method of eLearning (electronic learning) resources you use to
teach your children?
Homeschooler: We buy textbooks, use the internet, and Homeschool co-ops.
Question: What is your lesson plan of teaching?
Homeschooler:
We don't use a set lesson plan. We have cobbled things together. We use a verity of wrting tasks to work on
spelling and grammar, Story of the World for history. For math, we use Singapore math with some Saxon Math and Math-U-See. In addition, we use Time4Learning.com and some free homeschooling websites for science. We supplement all of this with hands-on learning experiences.
Also, we stop and do more in-depth work on things that our children find interesting.
Question: On a typical day, please describe the life of
homeschooling? How many hours a day do your children typically work?
Homeschooler: There is no
typical day for us. Some days we do more hours, some we do less. But we average about five hous a day.
Question: What are the biggest challenges you
face as homeschoolers (e.g.flexibity, financial, socialize, etc)?
Homeschooler: Our biggest challenges
are keeping our kids focused on the work. We take breaks differently frm public and private schoolers so that we can stay
motivated and are able to keep up with the work.
Question: Are you member of home school
support groups?
Homeschooler: Absolutely! I utilize all support groups from parents who have homeschooled
their kids and have tried other methods. We try to learn from others' experiences.
Question: What advice would you give to someone who interested n homeschooling?
Homeschooler:
Find several homeschooling support groups. the more information and ideas you have the better. Really take the
time to understand your children strengths and weaknesses and work on them. Your homeschooling children really have
to take an active part inthe homeschooling experience. If your kids aren't on board, then it's much harder to do, but
that is the same with any schooling . If your kids don't want to do it, then it's a battle to get things done.
I would also suggest finding hmeschooling co-ops. There are co-ops available so that parents
can spend time with ogher homeschooling parents and the kids can get together and spend time enjoying each other.
I love homeschooling. the flexibility to educate my children is the best. This is a great
opportunity to really get to know my children and to learn along side them, and the chance to see and encourage them is priceless!
